In praise of old age

I write in praise of old age

I write in praise of the decades

my life on earth

the 0.seconds

my gradual loss of metabolism

the down of the back and in turn the height

the eventual grey hairs

or white

the attempts to dye them frequently

the sag of the mangoes as gravity pulls down

the wrinkles of my eyes and around my mouth

the wrinkle which connects my eyes

presenting itself with every squint

every animated form of confusion

in praise of the weariness of my sight

“i was 22 when i got glasses” my teacher once said

i’m 22 now

old age is gradual but even so its affects are pronounced

old age is felt when you’re graduating

your brother about to begin

but today

I write in praise of old age because one day

i’ll get there

but until then I only feel some of the effects

so today, i’ll write in praise

*This piece has been set to be publicly posted as I finish my last exam of my final year at Sheffield University *

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

As far as I know…

the weeks are going by fast

September was chill

October was filled

November has much promise

“What do you want for Christmas”

Christmas jumpers

Christmas songs

but wait, hold on

we’re moving too

fast

didn’t November just start?

i’ve got reading

assignments

reports to get done

applications

5 weeks

let’s do this

let’s do that

let’s go here

let’s go there

i’m busy

i can’t make it

i’m sorry

maybe next week

Hmm…

Where do you want to go?

What’s next?

What then…

Travelling

Work

Masters

I don’t know

I’m thinking about it

it’ll work out

after graduation?

Text me

don’t forget me

call me

come see me

remember me

remember back when

i miss you

i missed

your call

sorry

Hold on, slow down

didn’t November just start?

“Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”

Trust in God for your days

put your plans

in his hands

November just started.
